Typology also teaches us object lessons from the Bible. For instance, the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil is equated to the Ten Commandments and the Tree of Life is equated to Christ’s works on the Cross. Typology, in this case, teaches us the effects of being under the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil versus being under the Tree of Life. First of all, it's interesting to note that Joshua's name is actually the same as Jesus, whose Hebrew name is "Yeshua." In the Septuagint Bible, written by the Jews in the Greek language, the name Ἰησοῦς or Iēsoûs (Greek name Jesus) is the standard Koine Greek form used to translate both of the Hebrew names: Yehoshua and Yeshua. The study of biblical types is called biblical typology and it can be interesting, challenging, and enlightening.

Overall, biblical typology helps believers in many ways. It offers a clear connection between Old and New Testaments, reveals the unity of the Bible, and emphasizes the new covenant believers experience in the finished work of Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit moved over the waters of the earth in Genesis 1:2 (a new creation). Noah and his family were saved by floating on the water. Moses is saved by floating on the water of the Nile, as an infant (a prefigurement of infant baptism!). Moses and the Israelites are saved by going through Jesus’ use of typology “Typology means that earlier characters and events are understood as figures of later characters and events, and the text is written in a way that brings out the connection” (Peter Leithart, “A Son to Me: An Exposition of 1&2 Samuel,” p. 13).

Typology is a kind of symbolism. It also points to something. However, typology is prophetic in nature because it prefigures, foreshadows, point to, or whispers of, a yet future something, someone, some place. or some event. The Bible reveals many types in the Old Testament.

Moses was the lawgiver, and Aaron was the high priest and intercessor (Ephesians 2:18; Hebrews 4:14-16; Hebrews 7:25; Hebrews 10:21; cf. Romans 8:34; 1 Timothy 2:5; 1 John 2:1).

Typology in the bible

Typology also functions in prophecies about evil. Babylon, for example, is the type of cultural and institutional opposition to God's people. It is a kind of antikingdom of God and figures prominently in Revelation 17-18.

While many books and much study have been devoted to the topic of biblical types, the most (ISBE, page 3029). Typology is one means by which God weaves together the scheme of salvation from Genesis to the incarnation of His son, all the while leaving visible the evidence of His vigilant mastery. William G. Morehead, in an article for the International Standard Bible Encyclopedia, explains 2011-12-20 · On the contrary, typology is firmly rooted in historical fact and always involves historical correspondence. Furthermore, biblical typology, as evidenced in the writings of the New Testament, always involves a heightening of the type in the antitype. It is not simply that Jesus replaces the temple as a new but otherwise equal substitute.

What is the link that binds these two components together? •The link which binds them together is the correspondence, the similarity, of the one with the other.

One of the most interesting ways to read the Bible is through the lens of typology. Typology is where a person or event in the Old Testament foreshadows a greater person or event in the New Testament. The word “typology” comes to us from St. Paul himself, in Romans 5:14, where he referred to Adam as a “type” of Christ.

We should be cautious with how we view types in Scripture. We need to allow the Word to speak to us in the Grammatical Historical context in which it was written.

Biblical typology is when a person or an event in the Old Testament foreshadows a person or an event in the New Testament. The bible is full of these kind of things.
